Your Life Is Yours To Destroy Or Build

A lesson we all learn slowly through the school of hard knocks…

The truthiest of all the truths is that you’re the only person who has to live with yourself. It’s all up to you to make yourself feel good and happy and fulfilled and all those gooey things we want out of life. It’s on you and you alone. There are people who will come into your life and stand beside you on this journey: your family, your friends, your loves, your random encounters, that girl from high school who still wants to keep in touch on Facebook. They can comfort you and love you and connect with you and annoy you and frustrate you and teach you all the ways you’re not showing up for yourself. They can do that and believe me, they will. But, they are not responsible for you. That’s the best and worst truth of life. That however your life ends…

How I Know My Wife Married the “Wrong” Person

Beautiful. Thoughtful. Truth.

CROSS-SHAPED STUFF

Today my wife Lindsay and I celebrate our two year anniversary. Two years ago, we tied the knot and took the plunge. Two years ago, the cutest girl in Indiana was taken off the market! Two years ago, we launched the beginning of the rest of our lives. Two years ago…

And after two years, there’s no hiding behind the dinner-and-a-movie façade of dating life any longer. I can’t buy enough flowers to conceal it. I can’t open enough doors. I can’t say enough “I love you’s.” She knows (and painfully, so do I) that she married the wrong person.

5 Things Will Smith Should Make Before He Does Another Sci-Fi Blockbuster

I concur with everything… except number 2. I personally like the “family-friendly” acting vibe. But maybe that’s just me.

1. Hitch 2.

Hitch is my favorite movie of all time. I basically watch it monthly and you probably do too thanks to TBS. It is one of the highest grossing romantic comedies ever, and when ‘RomCom Con’ inevitably becomes a real thing, surely there will be a cast reunion panel. That classic flashback scene where Hitch is an awkward, clumsy, book dropping nerd is just way too real, but it’s also relatable which is why the movie gives hopeless romantics a glimmer of hope that one day, they too can be better at dating and not scaring their crushes away. That’s why we want — no, we need more. We want to know how Albert and Allegra are handling marriage and if Hitch and Sara ever tied the knot and lived extraordinary lives together. I’ve never started an internet petition, but if ever there were a cause worth fighting for…

A Moment’s Thought

I was mad at her. She was being annoyingly frustrating, as she usually is. A defense mechanism, no doubt, and something that God has been teaching me to love despite it’s… vehemence. We all know the armor she puts on is not really her, but in that moment, the perfect thing came to me: words.  Continue reading

3 Reasons Why You Should Never Put Yourself Down

1) First and foremost: you are God’s precious son or daughter. He paid the ultimate price for you, and thinks you’re worth His love. So then who are you to think less of yourself? You neither created yourself nor can save yourself, and there is nothing you can do to separate yourself from God’s love. Someone like that must be pretty darn awesome 😉  Continue reading

A Reason for God (the Discovery)

That’s often what is lacking in the presence of disbelief. There no longer seems to be a reason to have God. So what if He’s there? So what if He cares? It’s not doing anything to change or benefit my life (bad things still happen), so why should I give a damn?

This is not to say that I’ve found the answer to this question, or even to suggest that there is one. I’m writing about this because I’ve come to understand, and if not understand, to relate. Kind of.  Continue reading

Today is a gift…

Matthew 6:33-34  “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about it’s own things. Sufficient for the day is it’s own trouble.”

It is easier to have joy when you do not look to the past or to the future; one which you cannot change and the other which you cannot know. For we are not God –  our reach is only as far as our presence, and that only exists in the present.

Beautifully written. Spiritually inspired. Just what I needed to hear.

Oraia's Blog

Her story is told in 3 of the 4 Gospels, but neither Matthew, Mark or Luke thought her name was worth mentioning. Each author tells the story nearly the same; the meat of the story is identical, with each writer recalling different details. In all three accounts, this woman was introduced not by her name, but rather, by her issue. She was a woman with an issue of blood. For 12 years, this issue had haunted her.

This kind of introduction is not unique to her though. Throughout scripture, there are many times when those being healed by Jesus aren’t named by anything more than their issue. Diseased. Possessed. Adulterous. Leper. Lame. Deaf, dumb and blind. Maybe you know what it is to walk through life identified by only your issue. What you’ve done. What’s been done to you. The thing that haunts you. Alienates you. The first thing people…

A few small changes

I’m trying t0 change a few things in my life to make me more focused on what God has for me – I think this blog is one of the things which will help me. Since my vision for the blog has changed, I thought, “Heck, why not change it around a bit.” So the blog will be changing in one way or another, whether its the theme or the pages that I include, etc.

In any case, this is a bit of a filler post, simply because I’m trying to write up something at least once a week. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with a commitment like that, since it’s something that I think will help me in a lot of areas, most of which I’m sure I’ll talk about later. With that being said, thanks for reading, and God bless 🙂
